There have been countless times when I meet new people and the topic of what you do for a living comes up. You have been there before. It is one of those checklist type of questions that is asked when you first meet people.

When I tell people I’m a Pharmacist. Most people just say “oh cool”, “wow, that is a good profession isn’t it?”, “pharmacist make a lot of money!”, “you got a easy job, just counting pills and making lots of money”. Many people also think pharmacists in general are very boring people, not creative, or meticulous. Obviously, these are just generalizations and stereotypes. Not all pharmacists are this way. Furthermore, many people in the healthcare field are taught in school to act/be professional.

When the general public interacts with healthcare professionals it is in a professional setting. Thus you will most likely get a “boring” person. How are you suppose to trust a healthcare professional if they do not act professional on the job? However, healthcare professionals are just like anybody else in their private lives.

Pharmacists are Boring

How often do you do you meet pharmacist who is a blogger, makes YouTube videos, wedding videographer, photographer, car enthusiast, and avid financial investor? This is just an example that not all pharmacists are boring and not creative people. These are just hobbies that are my creative outlet from being a pharmacist 40+ hours a week.

I have enjoyed developing hobbies that also generate income. There will be people who disagree with my philosophy; however I truly believe it is worth while to make money doing something you love. Some say it takes the fun out of the hobby. This does not mean I don’t have hobbies that do not generate income. I just choose to have more hobbies that generate income. Most hobbies are expenses, but sometimes you can generate income at the same time! So why not? This also supports my financial goals of retiring or even semi early retirement. In the long run I hope to become per-diem or part time by the age of 40 years old. Being financially independent and generating income by doing what I love is the dream.

I hope the recommendations above will help guide, motivate, and inspire you to achieve your goals. Follow my blog for more tips and advice on finances and being a pharmacist. What are your experiences? Please comment below and share your thoughts.
